Put All Your Trust In God
Oct. 10, 2021 Scripture of the Week Mark 10:17-31
Message: We all try to do things right? Don't we? Let's talk about that. Some things we do are really important if we want to be a good person.
We always try to tell the truth.
We always try to be kind to everyone.
We always try to be helpful to others who are sick or hurting.
We always try to give thanks for all the good things that are ours.
Does anyone have any more ideas about how to try to be a good person? You adults can chime in also.
The problem is that we don't always do the right thing, do we. Sometimes we don't feel like being kind or helpful or thankful, especially when someone is mean to us or bullies us, or is hurtful to us. It can be really, really hard then to do the right things.
There is a story in the Bible about a good man who followed all the rules and he tried to do all the right things. This man asked Jesus what he needed to do to live forever in Heaven when his time on earth was done. In other words, he wants to know what he must do to live forever with God.
Jesus said to him, "With men it is impossible, but not with God, for all things are possible with God."
We know the rules to have a good life and do the right things, but it is not easy to do so all the time. We are not perfect. No one is except God. We all make mistakes some times. Every one of us makes mistakes and sometimes fail.
We must love each other and work together to do what is right and good, but only God, who loves us unconditionally, is able to give us the gift of life in Heaven where we will live with God forever.
So, the answer to the question of what we must do to live forever is this: Put all your trust in God. He will love us and guide us each day of our lives.
Amen.
